एक समय की बात है । एक राजा था । झीलों की नगरी में उसका भव्य राजमहल स्थित था। उन झीलों में से एक उसके राजमहल के चारों ओर फैली थी, साथ ही वहां एक बेहद सुंदर बाग भी था। उस झील में बहुत से सुनहरे हंस विचरा करते थे। ये सभी हंस रोजाना सोने का एक पंख गिराया करते थे। राजा उन सभी पंखों को एकत्र करवाता और राजकोष में जमा करवा देता।

एक गुरुकुल में दो राजकुमार पढ़ते थे। दोनों में गहरी मित्रता थी। एक दिन उनके आचार्य दोनों को घुमाने ले गए। घूमते हुए वे काफी दूर निकल गए। तीनों प्राकृतिक शोभा का आनंद ले रहे थे। तभी आचार्य की नजर आम के एक पेड़ पर पड़ी। एक बालक आया और पेड़ के तने पर डंडा मारकर फल तोड़ने लगा। आचार्य ने राजकुमारों से पूछा, ‘क्या तुम दोनों ने यह दृश्य देखा?’

प्रकृति और मनुष्य का अति घनिष्ठ संबंध है-ठीक मां और मां के गर्भ में पल रहे शिशु की तरह। जैसे मां अपने ‘रज’ से शिशु की शारीरिक और मानसिक संरचना को रूप एवं आकार देती है और शिशु के शरीर को पूर्णता प्रदान करती है, वैसे ही प्रकृति मनुष्य के शरीर की संरचना कर उसे निरंतर पोषित करके स्वस्थ और समर्थ शरीर प्रदान करती है, बुद्धि-कौशल से परिपूर्ण मस्तिष्क प्रदान करती है।
