UGC National Eligibility Test For Junior Research Fellowship and Eligibility for Lectureship December,2008

The University Grants Commission announces holding of the National Eligibility Test (NET) on 28th December, 2008 (Sunday) for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for the Award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) and eligibility for Lectureship in Indian universities and colleges.

• UGC will conduct Net in 77 (seventy seven) subjects (listed under item no. 9) at 66 (sixty six) selected University Centres (listed under Item no. 10) spread across the country.

The Union cabinet today approved 80 per cent raise in the income ceiling for creamy layer among Other Backward Classes (OBCs). The creamy layer ceiling among OBCs will now be Rs 4.5 lakh a year and not Rs 2.5 lakh a year, fixed earlier in 2004. With this enhancement, a large number of OBCs, earlier excluded from reservation benefits, will now be covered.

The present hike, however, is less than what some over-ambitious states like Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh were demanding. They wanted the social justice and empowerment ministry to bring the ceiling up to Rs 22 lakh and Rs 10 lakh a year.

A comprehensive educational loan scheme was framed with the consultation of Government of India with reserve bank of India and Indian bankers association. This scheme can avail a loan of up to 7.5 lakhs in India and up to 15 lakhs for abroad studies. These figures are not stable in nature for banks. State bank of India is availing an upper limit of 20 lakhs and in recent days. Indian bank has upgraded its maximum limit to 15 lakhs for education in India and 25 lakhs for abroad studies. All the details given below will change time to time and students are advised to get right information from the banks concerned.
