एक बन्दर एक 60 मीटर ऊंचे खम्भे पर एक मिनट में 6 मीटर चढता है। लेकिन दूसरे मिनट में 3 मीटर नीचे आ जाता है क्योंकि बन्दर जो ठहरा। इस तरह बन्दर धीरे धीरे खम्भे पर चढता रहता है। बताओ बन्दर कितने समय में खम्भे के ऊपरी सिरे पर पहुंचेगा ?

उत्तर-
37 मिनट में। बन्दर एक मिनट मे 6 मीटर चढा और दूसरे मिनट में 3 मीटर नीचे आ गया। अतः वह दो मिनट में 3 मीटर ऊंचा खम्भे पर चढता है। 18 x 2 = 36 मिनट । 18 x 3 = 54 मीटर । इस प्रकार बन्दर 36 मिनट में कुल 54 मीटर चढ जाता है और 37 वें मिनट में 6 मीटर और चढकर खम्भे के सिरे पर पहुंच जाता है।
